Israel intensifies its attack on Gaza: Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital hit.
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, in an attack carried out before dawn, Israel struck the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in the Gaza Strip after issuing a evacuation warning.
Israel, which has intensified its attacks across the region, hit a hospital in northern Gaza on Sunday. The Gaza Ministry of Health announced that the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in the Gaza Strip was hit before dawn following Israel's evacuation warning. It was also reported that at least one patient died during the evacuation due to the inability of the staff to provide emergency care. The incident caused the hospital to be unable to provide health services to Palestinians under the disastrous conditions in Gaza. Israel stated that it struck a Hamas command center at the hospital. It also claimed that necessary steps were taken to reduce casualties before the attack. The latest attack occurred during a period when the health system in Gaza has nearly collapsed. Due to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, there is a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies in the Gaza Strip. Hours after the attack on the hospital, a separate attack in Deir al-Balah resulted in the deaths of at least seven people, according to a local morgue. These attacks occurred hours after the Israeli Defense Minister stated that military operations would rapidly expand in Gaza and that civilians needed to be evacuated from "conflict zones." Israel also announced on Saturday that the Morag corridor, which separates the city of Rafah in the south from the rest of Gaza, had been completed and indicated that the army would soon expand "strongly" across most of the small coastal area. The war in Gaza began after Hamas carried out an attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people, mostly civilians. 251 hostages were taken, most of whom were released as part of negotiations between the two sides. 59 hostages remain, of whom 24 are believed to still be alive. Mutual accusations and calls for investigation Hamas described Israel's targeting of the hospital as a "new war crime" and stated that it was part of a series of attacks targeting Gaza's health infrastructure. Hamas holds the U.S. administration fully responsible for these violations, accusing Washington of providing Israel with a "political cover" by blocking international accountability mechanisms. Israel claims that Hamas uses civilian facilities, including hospitals, for military purposes. The militant group denies this.
